    Sorry i miss read the "take home" bit yes average wage was $400 a week in 85 so that sounds about right, but i imagine you would be getting tax back as well.

    Anyway as i brought up cost of living food, petrol ect is cheaper now than then in real terms, thats exactly what i said however not in dollar value.. everything is 3x dollar value so you "in fact" is very wrong..

    And whether it was easier to be bum?? I don't know about that, official goverment site states the un-employment benefit was: "Adult’ rate for those aged 21 years and over set at $91.45 per week and subject to indexation."
    I mean your own family had one person as a "career parent" as you put it and even though your were on the average wage (which is much more then the average person gets) you still got government hand outs...

    However, i won't bring up any more.. None of that was the point i was making about building huge wealth through property, that party is long over and young people these days missed the party..
