I hear that comment a lot and whilst i agree partially, it should also be noted that if an announcement is expected. (Like a resource upgrade, drill results whatever) then people would have already incorporated this into there buying and selling strategies. Thus it should be represented in the S/P and the chart.

It's the news which the market doesn't expect, or news that significantly exceeds or underwhelms the market that causes rapid movements. So yes if news arrives which blows everyone's minds 12.5c may be broken. Conversely on the downside.

An example i like to refer to is the royal commission bending the banks over for all sorts of wrong doings. The share-price of them all went up... Reason being, the market had priced in a far worse outcome.
