I think the Chinese influence over the DRC has been totally covered recently. It's a fully fledged member of the BRI. While there may be a trade war, if America decided it wanted to assert control over the AVZ deposit, you would end up with a very actual war in the Congo jungle. It wouldn't take much to set off local rivalries again.
IMHO best option for AVZ is to continue working with their Chinese partners in Dathomir etc and choose se the stable option.
Whether NF chooses the stable option is a bit of a mystery. It seems like he tries to court non-Chinese interests from time to time as a form of leverage and he keeps getting brought back into line. Ie forbidden from presenting at 121 or water pumps don't arrive.
His recent comments have been a little unstable.
The comment about flooding the market was inept and didn't show much clarity about the self inflicted harm that would cause. How does he think the brine producers in the Lithium Triangle would react to him flooding the market?
I was also concerned about the comment regarding plans for a Hydroxide plant because he's realising that the production throughput he's been spruiking would be logistically impossible to transport in the near term from Manono.
What concerns me about a Hydroxide plant is that NF hasn't considered the requirements to transport massive quantities of reagents etc into Manono. Where is he going to source those reagents and how big would the Hydroxide plant need to be to convert millions of tpa of Spodumene? Would this be the world's largest Hydroxide plant? How is he going to operate the Hydroxide plant at a competitive cost in the middle of the DRC? Where is he going to find a large skilled workforce to carry off these grand plans? The DRC doesn't have a well established chemical processing industry, but NF is going to get into chemical production at Manono? How is he going to transport the Hydroxide out of the jungle across slow routes? Hydroxide reacts to CO2 and quality does get significantly impacted if not transported suitably.
The AVZ is undoubtedly the world's largest Hard Rock Lithium resource, but what NF is proposing is a logistical nightmare and he is beginning to sound like a Nigerian Prince.
No wonder they cannot find a Chairman to deal with the mess of personalities.
