it's seasonal, this time of the year people crystallise their portfolio, if you make a large profit on a stock you then sell a loss to minimise your taxation liability. every large holder does this for taxation reason. I was a Actuary at AMP for 7 years, depending upon the stock performance large super funds would also do the same to return a deduction to the fund shareholders. Not uncommon
