basic necessities aside.....
our civilisation relies on energy. oil and gas. if that fails, the whole thing comes crashing down. if the whole thing comes crashing down, there is nothing left to invest in. except the basics and personal protection.
so the SAFEST thing is energy. if it goes, everything goes. like i said. small, mid caps, connected to the grid or contracted to those that are connected to the grid.
