What an appalling story that is - and it struck a chord with me because I was a 77 Sqn fighter pilot patrolling the Borneo border with Kalimantan in 1965. We flew our Sabres slowly 500 ft above what we were told was some the tallest and densest jungle in the world, knowing that if we swallowed one of the numerous birds we saw our chances of survival on ejection were negligible.

But the thought of that extraordinary rainforest habitat being razed to match the terrible picture I saw over Eastern peninsular Malaysia when I flew over it to visit the LAMP a few years ago pains me. Then I saw nothing but endless vistas of palm oil where there was only rainforest when that area was my airspace workplace for three years. At that time just after Independence Malaysia had no Air Force to counter the serious threats and occasional attacks from Indonesia during ‘Konfontsi’.

I’m not particularly attracted to most recent Green campaigns against all forms of technological development, especially their vehement fight against modern completely safe nuclear power - and against the rare earth production that’s essential for all green technologies such as wind and solar power and every communication device the Greens depend on to brainwash their younger supporters - BUT I’d support a serious campaign against Yeo and her now family cronies intent on devastating the Malaysian environment to enrich themselves.
