IMHO that was very sound advice. After undertaking quite a lot of specialised training & the urging of my trainers I had a go at relatively small tiem cfd trading. Brokerage & interest charges are hidden killers as are looming dividend payouts if short. Even if trades go your way I found it stressful in the extreme to sit on them multi-day [I will admit to having started during the worst stages of the 2007 meltdown & to being suitably singed despite mainly profitable trades].

IMHO margin loans / cfds are not for the unwary, the inexperienced [inc me] or those who cannot afford to lose a quick $100k. I still have an open cfd account & in the event of a ridiculously overdone selloff of a quality stock like BHP would have another go. Even recently when BHP was sent down to ~$41 I resisted that temptation - risk to reward ratio has to be a goodie!
