The lightbulb moment for me was going to a tesla dealership and seeing the chassis of the car with the body removed.
EVs are just so damn simple.
2 or 4 electric motors attached to an integrated battery/floor/chassis.
Normal steering, suspension and brake assembly, and that's basically it for hardware.
All the smarts are in the software.
Model X and Model S are the same car just with different bodies sat ontop.
Likewise the model 3 and Y.
If you had never seen a car before and were shown a tesla model 3 and say a (ICE) VW golf side by side for the first time, and asked which one you would want to try to reverse engineer, the EV is by far and away the most simple option.
The cost of batteries won't be an issue for much longer and as production volumes increase EVs are going become incredibly good value.
