The majority of trades are less than 100 shares across all stocks, from BHP to FLC to (I dunno) rxp; always have been. Have a look at the course of sales data!
Retail shareholders have to deal with institutional shareholders and brokers who have the hardware, software and trading terms to buy or sell small parcels (as small as 1) faster than you can think. Their equipment can "see" an order before it registers in the ASX trading system and react accordingly! It's not a conspiracy; its just reality!
