MBs spodumene spot range is considered to be fairly unreliable however it tries to cover a range of current trades. It would be fair to assume that the spodumene spot market trades within a range. So some converters may be paying US$650pt while some may be paying US$580.
The AJM contract covers a range of acceptable pricing over a period of 5 years. So comparing shaky weekly spot prices with 5 year contractual boundaries is apples and oranges whichever way you swing it.
Hopefully the LME will get its act together quickly with publishing accurate Li chemicals pricing because some of the contracts, if you look at the announcements closely, have terms based on published pricing for LiOH and Li2CO3. So as silly as we all think those MB spot prices are, they could very well have an actual impact on received pricing.
