If Smithfield is now offered at $200, it will pick up useful opportunities and we can see IFN is in full control. Generation is only half of the benefit conferred by Smithfield. It is now an actor in the firming market, displacing financial derivatives as it sees fit and eating their lunch.
I am convinced IFN needs a battery somewhere on the SYD-CAN interlink so it can time-shift wind production from low price intervals to peak pricing and never again transmit a volt it wasn't paid for. It is about to achieve this status in SA with the Lake Bonney battery.
Smithfield and the Lake Bonney battery mean IFN is now a price maker, not a price taker. Mr Market will soon wake up to this.
