Listening to our politically correct ABC this afternoon I found myself getting quite annoyed. Normally I enjoy the ABC(the alternatives are worse) and just apply the ABC correction factor in a varying amount, to whatever they are talking about. This was different, they just seemed to be on about it so much and in that hectoring tone that Big Sister adopts when she KNOWS what is good for you and will smash you about the head and body until you accept it.Perhaps this is what it was like in totalitarian countries,where the state propaganda organs all sang from the same songsheet. All the emotional buttons were pushed, we have to save the snowfields(in 50 years time!), save the Great Barrier Reef(for the kids,of course,always use that phrase if you want to diffuse any objections),we are on a great and noble quest to save the world(just like all wartime propaganda,give your project an aura of nobilty and people will happily disembowel themselves for "the cause")blah,blah, blah. All the AGW true believers will be giving themselves warm fuzzies tonight as they ponder the lowering of our living standards.Feeling just so good about themselves and how they foisted on the great unwashed a scheme so that they could get their quasi-spiritual jollies. Of course the real true believers are usually either securely attached to the government tit or are peddling books or carbon trading schemes(as I understand Al Gore is)
Never mind, though, because we are being virtuous, and if we won't be "virtuous" of our own accord then we must be made to be. This anthropogenic global warming theory is still just that, a theory with a fair number of scientific sceptics, so the matter is not settled by any means.
Of course the good Prof said that there will be pain(but funnily enough it won't be painful for him) and the cost will be reasonable(to him). But guess what? Politicians lie!! Isn't that an amazing revelation?No? Well why do we always act as if we believe them? It will be painful and costly but the people bearing the cost will be ordinary Aussies who are trying to get by,pay the mortgage and the fuel bill and on top of that ,eat. I have no problems with AGW enthusiasts if they want to live a carbon free lifestyle(between consenting adults of course, in the privacy of their bedrooms) but I am not interested in their scams.
