"What I don't understand is that, this fascinating process technology(being rated by some as meaner, greener and leaner)is that it has had no huge uptake by its market to date, why?"
TG,
Neither did the light bulb get immediate acceptance when it was first made reliable by Edison in 1880. He didnt just invent a light bulb, either but put together a system of electric lighting using his knowledge. Even though it was a good working bulb by 1880 and the bulbs gave 1500 hours life, it was very hard to get people to change over from gas.
I think the light bulb development is analogous to the situation with the Intec processes.
At this time the light bulb has been invented and the test plant has produced reliable electric light. Now there needs to be sufficient acceptance to build a decent power station and reticulation system for reliable supply. Investors in the GEC company at that stage, probably went through as much angst as we see in the INL forum now I suspect :-)
As quoted to me this year by the GM of a mine I was working at " I want to be the first to take up the older proven technology". This was in response to reluctance to upgrade to MS Vista and office 2007. He still uses XP SP2 or probably SP3 now. :-). That attitude summarises the majority of miners to new technology, as their careers often depend on it.
If you have something different to bring to the industry, lots will watch (or predict ship wreck), but will be very fast on the uptake if it looks good. Miners tend to be reluctant to take up something new, unless there is no alternative available. This is what we see in the Compass and SARGOLD cases also I expect.
Market take up reluctance to take up INL's processes also possibly result from so many Hydro-metallurgy projects that have failed in the past. This plus the fact of the previously mentioned conservatism.
There are so many applications for INL's process, it becomes essential they keep focused on one that will make them sufficiently cash flow positive to allow development of the other processes. I think the MRP will provide this cash flow. When the MRP is running and proven, there will be a much beaten path to PW's door for licenses.
Cheers Datrat.
