you were saying yak HERE YOU GO YAK YOUR POSTS WERE YOU STATED THAT WMDS NEEDED TO BE FOUND TO JUSTIFY THE INVASION AND IF THEY ARE NOT FOUND THEN THE WMD REASON WOULD BE MISLEADING
milesg - and if those things occur and proved to be so (which, my good friend, WILL occur) will you then finally admit you were wrong or will we find another pretense to be contrarian?

by the same token how much evidence would it take you Dave/Yak to change your view of the Americans? Maybe the truth lies somewhere in between the two extremes?
Or does the West have a monopoly on righteousness?

I will say now that if no WMD are found and there is no evidence to support they were tranferrred to Syrai, I will say that the justification of the war was not justified on those terms.

Yak.......Even if WMD are never found, would it have been appropriate to leave Saddam running Iraq the way that he was?
The Arabs wouldn't lift a finger even though they knew what he was..........
As a way of an analogy....if authorities become aware that parents are abusing their children in a particular way......give warnings to those parents which go unheeded, then smash their way in a find that the children have been abused....but not the way in which it was reported.....but quite clearly other kind of serious abuses had/ were taking place..........I ask....
Would anyone hold the authorities in contempt because they saved the children...............but for the wrong reasons?
Bottom line....the Iraqis were liberated from a cesspit.........

It would not be so much case of admitting i was wrong - I have said all along, way before the invasion started that if reasonably solid proof was produced that Iraq had WMDs or solid links to bin laden then I would be in support of military action against Iraq.
I still maintain this view and if proof is produced yes I would agree the ation was justified.
Considering the claims made by the US though the proof would need to be a bit more than the capture of the odd single terrorist (unless of cours it was bin laden) when just about every country in the ME would have the odd terrorist or two living in the country but does not mean the government of that country was supporting them.
Any WMDs found would also need to be a bit more than a small quantity left over from when Iraq did have a chemical weapons program prior to the 1st gulf war. Considering the size the program was supposed to be it would not be unexpected that a small amount was still held and it is the US that has made claims of on going weapons programs and the existance of 100s of tons of chemical agents.

Snooks - agreed but...
There are many tyrants in the worid and maybe we need to do this with all of them
However, regarding the call to arms and need for THIS particular war, the premise which was put forward and with which I agree is that they, the Iraq'is - thru SH, posed a clear and present danger because of not only his WMD but his links to terrorists groups.
If there are no WMD (and hey the sun aint gonna rise tomorrow) then the inital premise was misleading.
