The deal was done by Rudd to allow the Chinese govt to quietly acquire Austrlia's assets. He does not want to make it as obvious as the Chinese were doing by buying BHP directly so he will encourage it via the back door.
Rudd does not care about Australians. He has his Chinese mates to look after. The Labor big shots have always viewed Australia as the arzze end of the world and selling out their neighbours is OK.
The market is now so badly manipulated that no body will know who owns what or what is going on while they sell out.
