The other way of "conceptualising" the US's bankruptcy is the insolvency approach ..."can they pay their bills as they fall due".

This has been proven time and again (as Gold50000 mentioned) when they have had to raise the debt ceiling so they can cobble enough coins together - just to make payroll.

Any other self respecting business (apart from the US Govt) would have rolled over well before now....
