I dont follow SBM all that much, other than it is a trying to open up the old underground at Sons of Gwalia. A major point to keep in mind is the ground conditions of the mine at that depths, and whether the rock is under too much stress to economically mine.

Now I know there are mines in South Africa that are over 3km deep, but ground conditions vary mine to mine, and I seem to remember reading something a few years ago (over 10 years ago) that one of the major reasons the old mine shut down was because the opening would only remain open for a shift, i.e. when you came back after smoko or shift change the opening (drive, stope, etc) had closed up. Now this is not a fact, but I just seem to remember this.

If the ground condtions at Sons of Gwalia are as bad as mentioned above that would be enough to render the mine uneconomical. So the major question investors should be asking the company is in regards to the ground conditions.

    Cheers
