Silver is gradually losing its crown as a precious metal. It's going to end up in the drawer along with pewter and pearls. Back in the day when most of the populace couldn't afford gold at all, they used silver as an analogue. Now that the wealth of people globally has steadily risen, gold needs no substitute. If they don't like gold they can buy bitcoin which is also taking on the role of being an uncorrelated asset. (Not a Bitcoin fan myself). The evidence for silver's decline is seen in the obvious change to the gold/silver price ratio.
