The key difference to note here though is that Loihi and TrueNorth are only intended to be research chips for exploring the SNN paradigm, whereas Akida is intended for commercial use. Giving developers the necessary access and tools to support the development of products which incorporate Akida is paramount to its success. This is why the development tools for FPGAs and other programmable chips are free and easy to acquire - the revenue comes from getting as many developers as possible building products that incorporate the chip. There might be a cost that Brainchip is trying to avoid by limiting access to the ADE, but it would have to outweigh the benefit from the missed opportunities. Then again, I only requested access to the ADE to see if it would help answer my questions, so they probably don't see much benefit from giving me access.
