Between 1908 and 2015, Melbourne’s offical temperatures were recorded at a small strip of land on the corner of La Trobe St and Victoria St.
The temperature measurement guage was located only a few metres away from 8 lanes of traffic on Victoria Rd, so a hot diesel truck engine could at times sit idling in traffic right next to it.
And I wonder how the heat reflecting off all those new tall buildings across the road (that have been build in recent decades) may have effected the temperature readings over the century ?
Even still, the hottest ever January (mid-summer) temperature at this location in Melbourne was recorded way back on 13th Jan 1939.
