Druiner That is an interesting comparison you draw between the cigarette companies and big oil. I can clearly recall seeing on TV, representatives of the cigarette companies plainly denying there was any linkage between lung cancer and smoking. Was around the late sixties or early seventies. Their stance struck me as BS at the time and the memory has stuck in my mind ever since.
There are many climate change deniers out there and I now have a clearer understanding as to where a lot of their thinking is coming from. If the deniers spent some time in New Dehli's smog they might think otherwise. Just joining the dots of self interest here.
And on that thread the USA as gone from being an importer to an exporter of oil. With oil shale I understand they are exporting the equivalent of their annual consumption annually. Financially something that must be very beneficial to Uncle Sam and his "Make America Great" mate. No wonder there are minimal incentives towards electrification in the USA.
The nice thing looking forwards is the sun shines on us all. Solar costs are becoming cheaper by the day and battery electric mobility in what ever form is now viable. The established car companies are seeing and responding and thanks to Musk on showing the way.
Having our own power supply on our own doorstep is hugely appealing to me. Drying up the cash flow to the middle east and state sponsored chaos and to the Make America Great brigade is fine by me. The world will be a cleaner and more equitable place for us all.
