From watching this current US administration in action over the past two years, one can take away some attributes over time.
One of them is certainly that this administration enjoys to spill personal favourable or unfavourable views, regardless whether those viewed ask for this or not.
Such is given anyway, as if everybody is waiting for this to be shared.
What I take from the recent tweet is simply an interest.
An interest geopolitically motivated.
A base for the military in an era of increasingly expansionary Russia , a base for resource exploitation in a trade war with China.
Greenland is an autonomous region under Danish control.
Denmark is part of the EU.
Nothing moves in Greenland without the nod of the EU.
Trump has demanded repeatedly for the European NATO partners to increase their military spending. The EU is slowly rising to the task, but grudgingly.
Greenland is strategically well positioned to host additional military presence.
Since the Pentagon actively pursues new rare earth supplies, it makes sense to have that resource in a place which you also militarily control.
Hence the state visit to Denmark, to get the ball rolling.
NATO members would be appeased by a stronger US presence, the US gains control of certain resources in return.
Everybody would win.
All IMO.
