Well, yes and no. When someone sells out before an announcement it takes the uncertainty and the "hindsight" element out of it. You simply take your profits fully knowing that you could miss out on gains, but also won't partake in watching your investment plummet.
It's a form of risk management which doesn't work for everyone but for those investors who have a lower risk appetite it works well.
