I don't think you appreciate that many "truths" can only be transmitted to humans in the form of a fairy tale.
Why do you think they are perennial.

It's true that many claim Jesus was not an historical person, but that needs to be qualified as to which Jesus is referred to.
FWIW I'm in the camp that thinks the "Jesus" as depicted in the NT was not an historical person. But equally, Christianity did not just pop out of nowhere and all teachings, particularly those that become major religions, do so via the agency of extraordinary men. Not ordinary men.

A classic example that every stick has two ends. It's both true and also the quickest way to oblivion.
Many, if not the majority of people would have no chance of ever understanding, let alone attaining anything beyond ordinary human experience, were it not for the influence of "religion", notwithstanding that like the above "YOU ALONE" statement, it is also very much a "stick".
Whether that experience leads to anything real is another question.
When you think about it, the situation is not much different in principle from those who spend all their time reading books about things they have no way of verifying let alone any clue how to actualize.
