It is you sir who does not get it, it's a tax effective mechanism, you are only diluted if you don't participate, if they split the shares 10 fold and brought the per-share value to 44c how much do you make in earnings for your holding?
Exactly the same, ie; $100000 holding at say $5000 dividend, you split the share 10 fold you still have $100000 holding receiving $5000 dividend.
If your synopsis were accurate the company could increase EPS exponentially just by doing a 10-1 share consolidation, by your standards that would somehow increase earnings.
This is how i can tell you actually don't invest in companies, merely play with shares.
Not meaning to be nasty, just sharing some investing knowledge built up the hard way.
