Another small project in Jamaica: The National Water Commission (NWC) has specified the MABR method of treatment for a new cruise-ship terminal that is being constructed in the Jamaican capital of Kingston. The historic Port Royal is the site of the terminal; and the sewage plant will treat the entire Port Royal township as well as the terminal. Fluence’s first residential SUBRE installations (Kingston and Spanish Town), built with our Jamaican local partner Engineering and TechnologyAssociates, must have impressed the NWC. They describe MABR as ‘revolutionary’ in the documents – certainly a term you don’t hear in the wastewater industry all that often. The terminal should be completed by January 2020.

I’ve attached the link to the environmental impact report. It gives an interesting insight into the complexity involved in approval and planning processes. This one is also of interest to history buffs for its archaeological significance. Port Royal appealed greatly to 17th century buccaneers due to its proximity to trade routes and easy access to the SpanishMain. It was called home by some of the most famous pirates of the 17thc: Blackbeard, Henry Morgan, Jack Sparrow...
