Dave R, I’ve read the paper and it highlights how IPCC reports are not to be trusted as they make too many rounding errors in their calculations as well as assumptions without any backing. As stated in the paper, the overwhelming majority of the scientific peer-reviewed literature does not predict that a catastrophic global warming thesis is correct. Yet Al Gore is still peddling that line as if all the scientific community backs him.
Cracks are appearing among various scientific lobbies, which shows how politically and emotionally charged the issue has become. For example, the editor of the American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. Those that still believe in agw are fighting back and letting loose some nasty comments about their colleagues who have stated this proclamation. Interesting to see where these disputes will lead. Clearly it’s no longer a consensus amongst so called peer reviewers of agw related papers. Let’s hope a true and open debate comes out of this with full and impartial media attention. Perhaps.
Interesting to note that NASA and NOAA are coming under increasing criticism about the accuracies of the data they publish. Independent sources have contradicted some of their readings of the global temperature. They say it’s still rising but original satellite data say otherwise. This is not the first time. Last year, NASA was forced to revise their figures and eventually admitted after their corrections that the years 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004 all had lower temperatures than the year 1900 rather than the other way around. This meant that thousands of research papers now face revision, new suggestions must be created by the IPCC to explain away differences between satellite and ground based temperature data, and the very credibility of those at NASA responsible for this fiasco have been brought into question. Compounding these problems, meteorologist and researcher Anthony Watt has found serious flaws in the positioning and re-positioning of temperature recording devices installed throughout the United States (eg, air-conditioning systems and car parks being built around thermometers).
Another interesting revelation. Satellites now show sea levels have fallen over the past two years. Again, this could be a blip. But it isn't what the models predicted, just like they didn’t predict the big fall in global temperature over the past few years, despite the continual rise in CO2. As I said, there have been lot of discussions and papers written explaining that increases of CO2, in particular the tiny amounts measured today, have little or no impact on global temperatures. The rise and recent fall in global temperature must be due to something else, or a complex mixture of various factors, including perhaps CO2. We definitely need a proper study of all this as the scientific community is clearly undecided.
