I came from the Mediterranean yachting industry to Rockingham -"Rhodes to Rockingham" - you couldn't have a greater cultural juxtaposition. But I raised my family mostly there and enjoyed it along the way. The old timers of the previous generations will tell you how they spent their summer holidays in Rockingham, camping or in an original fibro and tin house. It was a beach haven for many Perth and regional families. And of course, the earlier history back when the region was a timber export area, the jetties of Rockingham moved their quota of logs.

I was there in the 90's when the present beach front shops were developed. It certainly altered the mood. But the park alongside the beachfront remains the same, and a popular barbecue spot that has transcended all generations. It was the number of immigrants that I noticed most who found this shady beach. My own foreign born wife and children certainly adapted. Me of course, was quite at home, coming from the a similar named place on the opposite coast, Rockhampton.

Rocky - Rhodes - Rockingham, over 40 years. Not sure which one is really home.
