You are normally pretty spot on Ash, but I must admit I have not looked at this in detail( the RIC trading...or eve nbn % of shorts) but I still think that the proportion of shorts versus the daily trading volume is a very significant matter, and not just shares on issue.
The same principle applies to the number of shares in a so-called free float when companies are listed on **promotion blocked**. Years ago the ASX was very strict in terms of making sure there was good liquidity so that the price of shares are not squeezed up by a small volume of buying; so it is obvious that the Converse could apply here!
