Australian researchers have come up with a technique to diagnose breast cancer without even going near the breast. Breast cancer causes subtle changes
in hair structure, which can be detected through analysing X-ray images of the hair. A recent trial had about 75% accuracy, with research underway to boost precision. Sydney-based Fermiscan says the test will be commercially available by the end of the year, with hopes it will one day replace the mammogram. "But until the accuracy improves, it will be an adjunct to existing methods." >>1 year
