    For some silly reason when I started that spreadsheet chart years ago, I used SPI end of month close instead of XJO or XAO and I'm just too lazy to redo it but really makes little difference.

    I said typical but it really is average which is not the same thing.

    Yes, I just stack each year with its months under each other and average each month.

    I have played around with other longer term charts where I equalise numbers by dividing by the previous year end close, so that current high numbers don't overwhelm the tiny numbers of decades ago.

    It says May is unfriendly and so is Sep/Oct but we all knew that.

    For the average decade chart I have a longer term one I didn't show where I do equalize so that the 1987 crash doesn't become so important. It still isn't all that different.
