The problem of a buy back NOW is that not only it would be a very temporary relief, but it would also deprive the company from the cash used to buy its iwn shares back. In a downtrend like this one, cash is king. If this climate lingers for another 2 years, we will need this cash and it won't be available anymore. We might also need the cash to grab some cheap opportunities.
I don't mind a buy back once the trend has inverted (confirmed), even if it is at a higher price than "the current bottom" (which no one knows if it actually is the bottom or not).
I'd rather they boost the SP when the sector is recovering, than artificially and temporarily maintain a depressed SP at this level.
