If I was commissioned to carry out a very important task on behalf of the CEO of a company, I can say that I am one with the CEO. The CEO may say that I speak on his behalf, and that I am one with him. This doesn't make me the CEO. Besides Jesus actually said "the Father is greater than me", so where does that leave your Christian friend?
Secondly, where does it say that the Father is God?
Thirdly, the Jews were good at misunderstanding Jesus. Throwing stones at Him could easily represent a misunderstanding rather than an acknowledgement that something is true.
