Now the all ords has followed through with a 2year+ low this morning[4857] when it dropped below the 4880 low of 16-7-08.

As far as picking a low just for fun, how about 81c on 21-8-08? In relation to the 6.25[perfect square] top of 21-2-07 it's at 540deg or 18 months and the square root of 625 is 25 less 16[Gann] = 9 squared = 81

But as you mention, who can say? The only safe way is to wait for the trend to change, buy on support and use stops.
Take no notice of the fundamentals would also be sound advise.
