i think that you are confusing politics with economics and politicians with the people who actually influence fiscal policy and economic outcomes.. costello is a politician and not someone with any economic or business training at all..
he was the talking head for the policy work of the department that he nominally headed and the economic miracles that you and some others credit him with were no more nor less than global financial expansions and manipulations which have now come back to bite us..
in fact he could be accused of dereliction of duty for failing to put in place the policies and procedures which might have saved the electorate and business from getting into the mess they now find themselves in, financially and from the perspective of the housing bubble..
