A lot of people criticise the RSPCA for the fact that they euthanase so many animals. With the number of irresponsible pet owners about, they are doing the best job they can. Having a pet requires a commitment, almost like having a child and most pet owners aren't prepared for it.
Cats do make lovely companions - they are less demanding than dogs and equally faithful. Some even like to go for a walk LOL!
On the subject of ill treatment of animals - anyone who isn't horrified by it is a worry.
