We only have access to dollar value turnover for yesterday as the individual buy/sell amounts are 3 days lagged.
If you add up all the buys and sells, the total dollar turnover for yesterday was $4,441,950 (i.e. $2,220,975 in buys and of course $2,220,975 in sells).
The top 4 brokers (as usual) account for the 88% of the dollar value turnover:
Comsec: $2,774,234
Westpac: $518,443
eTrade: $371,190
Fortis: $260,830
If we assume:
a) there were 15 x 300k orders (4.5m shares)
b) they were executed by the same person/entity
c) they did so at 25c per share
d) all orders were done through the same broker
..this would suggest a total sell value of $1,125,000 (15 x 300k x $0.25c).
The only broker who did anywhere near $1,125,000 was Comsec. As to why is was happening, we will never know. It could be a portfolio rebalance or any number of other reasons.
It looked a bit amateur in execution of the sale so it might just be someone wanting out or taking a big punt on a short (brave person). If I'd have needed to offload 4.5m shares when there was obvious buying activity, I would have let it run a bit before doing so.
On Monday, when the data comes out, we'll be able to see exactly who it was. Meanwhile though, looks like a customer of the Yellow Bank to me.
