When POG moves up the money going into these ETFs move up exponentially. The underlying shares gets a bid regardless of how it is going operationally. The same goes when POG goes down the money coming out of these ETFs forces them to SELL the underlying regardless of current valuation or operations. GDXJ was 41.84 early August to 35.78 mid Oct. That is a 6% decline

Recent downturn is a simple case of the wine bottle being thrown out with the cork. It has nothing to do with GOR valuation or how its fundamental operations are going.It is also good to note that when GDXJ starts to turn shorts will pile on to the underlying stocks looking for a free ride down. This exacerbates the downtrend situation.

Buying high on strong upside momentum is always tempting, as that’s when people feel the best about any asset. Bullishness and capital inflows into gold ETFs soar as gold powers higher. This means the later you buy a gold stock in any up-leg, the smaller their potential gains and the higher the odds are of a major sell-off looming. The safest way to buy a goldie is to do it over time, as far-larger gains are won by instead buying low, and adding positions when a goldie is out of favour.
