With Investissement Québec, which has already poured millions into Nemaska lithium and a clear interest from the Minister of the Economy, Pierre Fitzgibbon, for this sector, Sayona Quebec believes that the situation is more than favorable to make Abitibi-Témiscamingue the nerve of the lithium industry.

Serge Rouillier, sustainable development director of Sayona Québec, believes that the trade tensions between China and the United States open a window of opportunity for Quebec in the development of the lithium industry.

The demand for lithium continues to grow and the only producer of batteries is China. We know that Americans depend on China, but the natural North American market is Quebec , says Mr. Rouillier.

Thus, with lithium deposits operating in the region, Sayona Quebec believes it can become a source of lithium supply. This perspective becomes more plausible in the event that a battery manufacturing plant is created in Ontario or Quebec.

Already a monitoring committee

Even though the Authier project in La Motte, in the Abitibi RCM, has not started its activities or completed the environmental assessment phases, the company has already set up a follow-up committee, composed of 14 people including citizens, members of indigenous communities and concerned municipalities.

A follow-up committee was set up for the Authier lithium mine project in Saynona Quebec.

The formation of a monitoring committee is part of the obligations related to obtaining a mining lease. Mining companies have 30 days, after receiving their lease, to set it up.

Two positions would be filled on this committee, a position of citizen of the Abitibi RCM and a position for the community.
