    Absolutely right.
Anyone who lets cattle or sheep die when you could have finished them for the current fat market has got rocks in their head.
Put your older cows and calves on a grain bin for 6 to 8 weeks and split them.
Our better cows are bringing $1500 and even taking out the cost of feed at $500 plus per tonne it is a get out of jail card.
We were in the central west in the 82 drought. Stock were worthless.
Old fella near Forbes was cutting the throats of old ewes and throwing them to the pigs.
Droughts suck no two ways about it.
Management is about making reasonable decisions even if it means 100% de-stocking.
Farmers totally dependent upon stock will have issues re-stocking when it ends. Anyone with mixed cropping country will go all out with wheat/barley etc when it breaks.
