One of the repercussions of this Georgia/Ossetia/Russia stouch ...could be to put the fear of Russia into the hearts of Polish and Czechoslovakian leaders to sign the Lisbon Treaty post haste (where up to this time, they have been reticent to do so) ...to try to stem the regrowth of the Russian Empire.
They might rather prefer to be part of the "European Empire" as Euro' President Barossi put it, in July 2007 ...rather than to go backwards into the repression of the Russians.
