AMP certainly has the potential to become something very special post life-insurance sale and re-positioning execution. It will be one of the very few focused wealth managers in Australia with a successful investment history (AMP Capital and AMP Bank) and the might to take on the 'big jobs'. The recent $6.2b raising also seems to prove trust, from the big end of town, remains with AMP Capital.
I have been debating the idea of taking profits, or letting it ride. And this is what i have settled on; possible S&P500 break-out (~3030 mark, currently ~1% short), QE4 (playing out, but not called QE), possible settlement of China/U.S. trade dispute (Bloomberg reported pending resolution Nov), AMP life-insurance arm sale ~$3b, re-positioning execution, and short-sale covering (~6.12% in outstanding shorts according to shortman as of the 16/10, or ~210m shares) and my conclusion is this might just be the beginning of a very strong and sustained rally. Sure, it's not going to be straight up, but too many independent factors seem to indicate there is short term, and long term value in holding in AMP.
