No Awalk is voicing an opinion with some anecdotal evidence and experience, most likely professional pediatrician (no one really knows the background of any poster).

Again, we have very little in the way of facts as to the correct diagnosis rates of pediatricians, GPs, Triage Nurses, Country Doctors, Nurses, Community Nurses for croop. It is unbashed shame this data isn't widely available for all levels of medical practice, based on science and the measurable outcomes. If the data was available it would certainly help improve clinical practice. I cant believe it isn't, how are you meant to drive forward if the attitude is "everything is ok!". It isnt unless you can prove it.

The double blind study performed by the Resapp, does set the abilities of the app at a point in time. The ability of app is favorable even measured against the "gold" standard of expert diagnosis in a clinical setting. Looking on the net and Resapps own experience seems to suggest this, basedon panel disagreement.

Now you take the app out of confined first world face to face clinical setting, and it is a winner. Or put in the first world setting, change the threshold to increase sensitivity (95%) but reduce specificity (35%, a guess based on my background) and you have replaced the triage nurse. I suspect "on average", it would do better job than GPs, and down for this specific task... but definitely not looking to replace just enhance, if the professional is not too closed minded. The app could aid these clinical professionals, trigger ideas from its discrimination in a repetitive, predictable, uniform manner.

where data is continually accumulated and the algorithm/company "learn" from never forgotten data.

(Unfortunately while trawling the net last night, I did read about cases where a pediatricians misdiagnoses of children thought to have croup, but found to have blocked airway from an object. In one case, the child was brought back by the parents 3 times. The app could have this as a potential check list item, post diagnosis, there maybe ways to discriminate in the sound, but how our you going to get the data unless the app is out in real world use, and these cases are feedback to Resapp)
