Unwired posts strong results, closer to new network SYDNEY (WiMAX Day). The Seven Network in Australia reported today that the “technical assessment of [its] WiMAX network [is] nearly completed.” Seven acquired the WiMAX network operator Unwired last year for AUD 124.7 million, and since has been reviewing expansion of the Unwired network, and its upgrade for mobile WiMAX. Some of the delay in expanding the Unwired network has been a result of a lack certified 802.16e equipment. New equipment for mobile WiMAX coming on the market is good news for Unwired, which earned AUD 22 million for the last year. For the cost of a new network, Seven said that “funding options still [need] to be addressed.” However, Seven remains committed to WiMAX. According to Kerry Stokes, CEO of Seven, “we believe in the potential of WiMAX as a mobile broadband solution and as an efficient platform for delivering content solutions in multicast and broadcast environments.”
