ChristianP: you are raising a sensible question. amory never said it's different. timewise, geographically, or in any other way. Terror used as a weapon, has been around for a long time. the holy inquisition, the french revolution, stalin etc. the idea is to frighten people out of their wits, thereby reducing their ability to defend themselves.
in a war, there is no way you are going to win if you wait for the enemy to make the next move. nine-eleven was as much a declaration of war as was pearl harbor. if the americans are going to pussyfoot around with human rights, political correctness & all the rest of it, they will be the losers. likewise if they keep on apologizing for the invasion of Irak. penty of time to restore all the beautiful concepts of freedom & democracy once the war is won.
this war is not about territorial conquest, it's about one creed of hate (amory will not do it the honor of calling it a religion) determined to dominate another. that indisputable fact should override all other considerations. the fanatics with their sharia-laws have already established footholds in places as far apart as Nigeria and Malaysia. when some idiot preaches violence in a school or a mosque, he should get kicked out of the country or sent to jail, and the place where they listen to this kind of garbage should be shut down for the duration.
