Whilst it is a bit a shame that she has been, it would appear, utilised as the young child on the spectrum - a vehicle for the message that both she and her parents fervently believe in - people need to hear the message - the same one the 11,000 learned concerned worldwide scientists are being ignored about - the same one that mother nature is sending us - fire after fire - aggravated storm after storm. Its happening folks. Ignorance will not be bliss here. A plan and a remedy is required.
I live on NSW north coast and have surfed in water that has had its water temps increase slowly but surely over the last 30 years. At least 3-4 degrees above what is was late summer in the day.
Species that used to live in tropical waters, including the dreaded irukangi stingers, are moving south and now found nearby - vignerons in SA and VIC are buying land in Tassie so they can replicate cool climates for their wines - commercial decisions and evidence worth noticing.
The best predictor of human behaviour is self interest. Thats the problem here - we have to act for our joint interest not our individual interests. I am genuinely doubtful we are smart enough as a species to do that given recent conduct. But one can hope and one can make people think -as this kid has done.
And more than think about it, the principle future challenge is as a world embracing the needs of the developing world, the India's, the African states and growing asian countries to convince them not to increase the carbon risks to try and achieve western living standards. A tough ask for a divided western world hanging on to its dominance focusing on China conflicts. I think our HC contributor madamswer nails this point.
