"Miners in the region [NSW] are scrambling to achieve water self-sufficiency as the impact of restrictions spreads, installing recycling plants, using water trapped in old open pits and underground mines, and prioritising drilling for new water sources ahead of exploration for new mineral deposits, as dams and creeks run dry and authorities cut allocations to protect the drinking supply of regional towns."
