I'll think you'll find that IMI are already on that bandwagon. It is one of the reasons they got Walker on Board, to help push that barrow. They've made inroads with Vic Govt., but Govts are really more interested in it being pushed from a workplace perspective (imo). At the Federal level, everyone with the preventative medicine agenda at heart has struggled to get the results where they count - within the Medicare framework. Unless Medicare covers the costs of preventative care (esp. through early detection - read screening), it's near impossible. There has been some activity around the fringes, with dental health care etc., but less so with the top 7 National Health Priority Areas (NHPA) and (imo) even less so with cardiovascular health. Cancer, of course, is "famous" for the support it gets for early detection through screening. When the AIHW has as its main indicators measures driven "post-event" then you know it's a tough gig. If even one of their indicators was "earlier identification of underlying pathology", rather than a total focus on risk factors, then all of a sudden the CPI is front page news. All my opinion of course. I'm not saying don't join the bandwagon, but letters to local members/health ministers might achieve more individually than hoping IMI can do it for us.
