Yes they did get away with it... to invade a sovereign nation without a declaration of war from Congress I would consider an impeachable offence no matter how diabolical the dictator running the invaded country is..
And as for those who don't believe that high level government can be involved in a conspiracy do you remember Watergate?
And I also suggest you go back and look at the last two US presidential elections, particularly the 2000 election, and then I suggest you read the reports as to how that election was stolen. Greg Palast is the journalist who uncovered that conspiracy and he does have "the smoking gun" in the form of email evidence and he goes to great lengths detailing the scandal in his book The Best Democracy Money Can Buy..
I also suggest you read his book Armed Madhouse. It details the US administrations "conspiracy" to invade Iraq prior to 911. Also includes evidence.
And before you condemn Palast as a loon with an axe to grind this guy is on record as saying he does not believe 911 to be an inside job. Certainly hat has got to account for something with all you Popular Mechanics aficionados.
