Hey DB,
Cairn won't have to pay the tax bill if they lose their arbitration case against India. They have already had the proceeds of the sale of their 4.9% stake in Vedanta Limited seized. If they lose, then they maintain their current position. If they win, then they may get a nice cheque from the Indian Tax Department.
